Here in the state of Louisiana, towards the end of 2018, your regular drivers license will no longer be valid for federal identification purposes. This is in part due to the new REAL license standards as well as differing provisions within the Patriot Act....... this will create a rush on the passport office, which has recently announced that it will begin raising its fees.
Passport processing fee will jump up $10, bringing the total for a passport to $145 for adults and $115 for children....... still not bad, just a change from the norm. This is in part due to a study that was taken that documented the cost of processing a passport to be greater than $25 presently assessed in the total cost.
Many of you are probably saying "oh well, I have that passport card that they told me was a great convenience and an expressline at Port of entries." What they did not tell you when applying for that little ditty was that the passport card is good only for air and land crossings between the United States and Mexico, Canada, Bermuda, and the Caribbean..... you cannot use a passport card, the little thing that looks very similar to your driver's license, for seaports, meaning it is invalid to use on a cruise. This will now cost $65 for adults, and $50 for children....
All this to say, in the infamous words of Ben Franklin but ever so slightly modified, don't put off to tomorrow what you should do today
