Mardi Gras in New Orleans is one of the most exciting free shows on Earth. Despite the recent Twitter war between the mayor's of Mobile and New Orleans, New Orleans Mardi Gras has become the real deal, and historically it's region has the historical note of the first recorded Mardi Gras celebration in North America in 1699.
On the other hand, Mobile has the original and first Mardi Gras Krewe that was organized in North America, occurring in 1703, 15 years before the founding of New Orleans. Simple mathematics dictates that Mobile would have the original Mardi Gras.
Being a New Orleanian who draws his roots from Mobile, Alabama, I am well aware the heritage of both locations and can say that both Mayors are correct.
With that said, there are a few do's and do not's that you should be well aware of to help enjoy your Mardi Gras season .
